Makers

With the North American Handmade Bike Show coming up at the beginning of March, and being so close to home up in Sacramento, I thought I'd let slip some favorite in-the-workshop and custom builder photos I've been taking making over the years. This one is interesting to me for the rarity of the unused fork crown (it's now on a bike), and the place in mountain bike history it holds. This is a Ritchey Unicrown fork crown from the early 1980s, and Paul Sadoff of Rock Lobster held onto it until just this last year, saving it for the right customer's bike.

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting more on my FLICKR and INSTAGRAM (@vernor).

  1. I think that's a biplane fork crown.

    1. Morgan, I think the biplane is similar but not this one. Ritchey was calling this a unicrown and it's always confused me. your unicrown example is what I would normally refer to as a unicrown. Not sure what the final word is. Supercrown?
